Two races. Two finishes. A return to the podium and valuable championship points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 5 of the Ligier European Series at Silverstone became an important weekend for Marcus Terkildsen and MT Raceteam. After several challenging rounds without points, Marcus brought the car across the finish line twice, securing P3 in Race 1 and a hard-fought P3 in Race 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results were important. But they only tell part of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong qualifying \u2013 and a clear answer in the data<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Qualifying has been one of Marcus\u2019 strengths throughout the season. From Barcelona through Le Mans, he secured pole position for every race, before that run came to an end at Spa with P1 and a P2 in qualifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Silverstone, Marcus was once again fighting at the front. He qualified P2 for Race 1 and P3 for Race 2, putting the car on the first two rows of the grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But qualifying also gave us a clearer picture of a challenge we had been working to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the engine change following Paul Ricard, top speed has been an area we have continued to monitor and work on. At Silverstone, the qualifying data made the extent of the deficit particularly clear: our top speed was approximately 6\u20138 km\/h below the average of the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite that, Marcus put the car P2 and P3 on the grid. Over a single qualifying lap, he was able to extract enough performance to put us in a strong position. Over a full race distance at Silverstone, however, the straight-line speed deficit would be much harder to compensate for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We knew the races would require more than outright pace. Every position would have to be fought for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back on the podium in Race 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Starting Race 1 from P2 gave Marcus a strong position from which to fight at the front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the beginning, however, it became clear how difficult it would be to compensate for the difference in top speed over a full race distance. Marcus continued to extract everything available from the car, but lap after lap the deficit on the straights added up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fight for the overall victory moved out of reach, but the fight for the strongest possible result did not. Marcus stayed focused, kept pushing and crossed the line in P3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After several weekends without points, seeing the chequered flag again was important. Doing it with a return to the podium made it even more significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there was still another race to fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Race 2: A race defined by defence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Starting Race 2 from P3, we knew from the beginning that defending our position would be the main challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the top-speed deficit particularly difficult to compensate for over a full race distance, Marcus had to work from the opening laps to keep the cars behind him. Attacking was difficult, so precision, positioning and racecraft became even more important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race became more complicated when a red flag created a hectic sequence around the mandatory pit stops, with several cars coming into the pits and completing their stops early. Through the pit stop sequence, we lost one position and Marcus returned to the fight in P4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the task remained the same: defend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marcus continued under pressure, with the cars behind carrying more speed on the straights. Lap after lap, he had to place the car exactly where it needed to be, stay composed and make it as difficult as possible for anyone to find a way through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pushed at 100% and fought for every metre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the pressure and the straight-line speed disadvantage, Marcus held P4 all the way to the chequered flag. After the position change through the pit stop sequence, no further positions were lost. After all the red flag pitstop mayham Marcus secured P3 after race control looked over the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the results don’t show<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The timing screen shows P3 and P3. It doesn’t show everything required to get there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind every race weekend are hours of preparation, repetition, adjustments and data analysis. There are frustrations, difficult conversations and the constant search for answers when the performance available does not match the level we expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Motorsport has weekends where everything comes together and the focus is purely on attacking. Then there are weekends where the challenge becomes extracting the absolute maximum from the package available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silverstone was one of those weekends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marcus drove with complete focus and determination. The top speed wasn’t there, but the fighting spirit was. When challenging for the lead was not realistically possible, the objective became maximising every opportunity, protecting every position and bringing home as many championship points as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is exactly what he did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We leave Silverstone with two completed races, two podiums and incredibly important championship points after several weekends without scoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is satisfaction in returning to the podium and finally crossing the finish line twice. There is also a clear understanding of where performance is still missing and what needs our attention before the final round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don’t lower our expectations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Silverstone was an important step forward, but our ambitions haven’t changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don’t lower our expectations. Not of ourselves. Not of our performance. And not of what we are fighting for in this championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is one round left to make it count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will keep working, keep analysing and keep pushing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
